Galley Kitchen Layout

Galley kitchen layout are also known as corridor or parallel kitchen layout.  The galley kitchen layout is best option when space is limited as you can place the appliance on opposite site which help the workflow.  This compact layout locates the appliance, sink and cabinet on two parallel walls to crease a small pass through kitchen.  The galley layout is configure as an efficient work triangle, but this layout is really caters to one cook.

To ease traffic problem, place the refrigerator near the end of a galley kitchen, away form the entrance into the room.  Allow a 48 inch-wide aisle after all fixture are in place so that cabinet and appliance doors can open easily while someone walks through.  If the space is really tight you could make the aisle 36 inches wide, but appliance doors may collide with each other if more than one is open at the same time. Another tips for galley layout is to avoid installing doorways at both end to the galley or corridor, this way you can keep people from walking through the work triangle while the cook is busy preparing meals.

Storage can also be a challenge in this compact layout.  The solution is to installed tall cabinets that extent to the ceiling.  You'll have to keep a stepladder handy so reserved this high storage area for items that you don't use often but want to store in your kitchen.
